PlayStation kicked off 2023 by showcasing a variety of new games and some updates for the games that we’re already excited about during the first State of Play of the year on February 23. Plenty of games were shown, including some surprises. Let’s take a look at what we have in store for PlayStation in 2023.
PlayStation VR2
PlayStation VR2 launched just this month, so it’s only right that the presentation started off by highlighting a few of the games that are slated to release for the new VR headset this year.
The Foglands – 2023
Well Told Entertainment brings a sci-fi western-style horror shooter to Playstation VR2 later this year. There’s no concrete release date, but the game is set to release in 2023.
Green Hell VR – 2023
The popular 2019 survival video game by Creepy Jar finally makes its way to PS5 with the VR version that PC gamers have been enjoying since 2022.
Synapse
From the makers of Fracked, Phantom: Covert Ops, and Far Cry VR: Dive Into Insanity, comes a fast-paced, exciting VR shooter with telekinetic abilities. With a black-and-white color scheme, this high-action video game is slated to release on PlayStation VR2 at some point in 2023.
Journey to Foundation – Autumn 2023
The acclaimed book series Foundation by author Isaac Asimov is brought to life by developer Archiact through the form of a sci-fi, space, stealth RPG/shooter titled Journey to Foundation. You’ll be able to play it in autumn 2023.
Before Your Eyes – March 10th, 2023
Originally a PC game that was later ported to mobile, Before Your Eyes finally makes its way to PS5 as a PlayStation VR2 title. Experience the emotional narrative story through a game that’s guided by the blink of your eye. You can play through the journey on March 10th
PS4 and PS5 Game Announcements
In addition to new PlayStation VR2 titles, we got to see and learn more third-party games that we hadn’t heard from in a while. A lot of these games were announced last year, and are finally showing gameplay, some cinematic cutscenes, and excitingly – some release dates.
Tchia – March 21, 2023
Originally revealed at the 2020 Game Awards, tropical indie adventure game Tchia finally receives its release date of March 21, 2023 – and what’s more? The game will be available day and date on the PlayStation Plus Catalog for PS4 and PS5
Destiny 2: Lightfall – February 28th, 2023
Destiny 2 Lightfall is the new DLC for the popular first-person looter shooter, releasing next week on February 28th. We received a cinematic trailer, a look at The Witness (the DLC’s main antagonist), and a very brief sneak peek at some of the gameplay sequences you can expect in the new storyline. Available for PS4 and PS5
Goodbye Volcano High – June 15th, 2023
Goodbye Volcano High is a cinematic narrative and rhythm game. It was revealed in 2020 and finally gets its release date of June 15th, 2023 for PS4 and PS5.
Baldurs Gate III – August 31st, 2023
We’ve seen and even gotten to play some early gameplay of Baldur’s Gate III, but today we finally received a release date of August 31st, 2023. Today’s trailer showcased the character customization, cinematic cutscenes, and invigorating-looking gameplay of the highly anticipated RPG.
Wayfinder – 2023 (Demo Available February 28th)
Wayfinder is a co-op third-person hero shooter where you fight monsters, complete quests, and explore dungeons with friends. The game has a playable demo available on February 28th. There is no official release date as of yet. Available on PS4 and PS5
Street Fighter 6 – June 2, 2023
Street Fighter 6 showcased the return of three fan-favorite playable fighters in today’s State of Play. Check out Zangief, Lily, and Cammy in the new trailer. Street Fighter 6 is set to release on June 2 for PS4 and PS5
Resident Evil 4 – March 24, 2023
Capcom brought more gameplay and cinematic footage from the Resident Evil 4 remake. Substantially updated graphics and gameplay mechanics make this game look like an exciting way to experience the fan-favorite Resident Evil. Resident Evil 4 releases on March 24 for PS4 and PS5.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League – May 26th, 2023
Rocksteady provided an extensive look at gameplay and the intense combat in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, displaying the unique abilities and weapons for each character at your disposal. We also received an in-depth message from the developers, detailing the story, combat, gameplay features, and art direction for the game. We got a close look at Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang. We also learn that Rocksteady is dedicated to servicing and updating the game, including the addition of a Battle Pass for solely cosmetic items. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League releases on May 26th, 2023 for PS4 and PS5.
New Reveals
Humanity – May 2023
From the developers of Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite comes a level-building puzzle game/platformer. You can experience the unique experience in the free limited-time demo that is available today, February 23rd. Humanity is set to release in May 2023 for PS5, PS4, PS VR, and PS VR2.
Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections – 2023
The fan-favorite anime fighter is revived in the brand new Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, which brings the entire story of Naruto into one video game. Boasting updated visuals, a larger roster, and the addition of a new game-exclusive story, this Naruto game is set to release at some point this year.
PlayStation Plus: March Games
We didn’t just receive news for unreleased games, we also have the list of games that will be coming to each Playstation Plus tier in March.
PS Plus Essential
The monthly games for PS Plus Essential consist of Battlefield 2042, Minecraft Dungeons, and Code Vein.
PS Plus Extra/Premium
The PS Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium will see the additions of Rainbow Six Extraction, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Ghostwire Tokyo, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, and Tchia.
