Respawn Entertainment rolled out a new patch for the PC version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor today. The patch addresses performance issues that PC players have been experiencing since launch day.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor released on April 28 to a plethora of performance issues on both the PC and console versions. The PC version was hit the hardest, though, with drastic frame-rate drops and general performance problems, causing the game to be struck with the “Mostly Negative” user score on Steam.
YouTuber, Skill Up, stated via twitter “The port is a total mess, namely awful FPS performance that cannot be improved through any settings changes.” Additionally, Kinda Funny’s Andy Cortez chimed in saying, “I have an i9-9900 and an RTX 4090 and I average around 40 to 45 frames per second with tons of dips into the 20s and 30s.” Digital Foundry released a video review of the game, going as far as to claim the game “should not be sold” on PC due to its high amount of performance problems.
The official EA Star Wars Twitter account announced in a tweet today that a patch was made available for the PC version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and that a patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will be coming tomorrow, May 2. “We are hard at work on patches that will further improve performance and fix bugs across all platforms,” affirms the publisher.
The patch details show the PC version received improvements to performance with ray-tracing turned off. For the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, there will be several improvements made to both performance and various other bugs.
This announcement comes as a follow-up to a previous tweet from EA on April 28, in which the company assured, “We are aware that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn’t performing to our standards for a percentage of our PC players…. We are committed to fixing these issues, but each patch requires significant testing to ensure we don’t introduce new problems. Thanks for understanding and apologies to any of our players experiencing these issues.”
Similarly to the reaction to the recent PC port of The Last of Us Part 1, many players have been vocal on social media about their disdain for the publisher releasing the game before the performance issues were fixed.
Twitter user @downtimebros replied, ““Isn’t performing to our standards”. Why has the game been released for people to purchase then?”
Another reply by Twitter user @Arrrrash reads, “Lmao. Just rewrite this saying we knew we launched a broken game but didn’t have time to fix it. Atleast be honest.”
Despite these performance problems, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received high review scores from several outlets and is sitting at a 78 on Metacritic for PC, 86 for PS5, and 87 for Xbox Series X.
